Sometimes I find something, a new lotion, a book, a dishtowel that actually absorbs water, and I want to shout from the rooftops how good it is, and how much I love it. And then I want to tell all my friends about it so they can love it too. But I have like, two friends, and what if I tell them about these things and they already have a thing they’re using for that purpose and they don’t end up loving it? Where would I be then? So I thought I’d tell you.
Here are six things I’ve been loving lately. (This post includes affiliate links but is not a sponsored post—just things I like and wanted to share.)
1. Product: Wright Family Products Face Wash
My friend owns and runs this company, so I may be a little biased, but I can’t get enough of her face wash these days. With honey, coconut oil, baking soda, lavender and tea tree oils, this is a pore-tightening, face-brightening miracle. It requires a little work—you apply it and then use a warm, wet washcloth to wipe it off, so I usually put it on and hop in the shower. My skin absolutely glows after I use this for a few days. Love it!
2. Resource: Skinny Mom
How have I not heard of this website before now? As part of my plan to improve my mental health, I recently starting working out and trying to eat better (trying being the operative word). This site is a great resource for filling, healthy recipes, many of which include rice or pasta, and serving sizes of a cup or more! Weight Watchers SmartPoints values are provided as well, which is helpful if you’re going that route to help lose weight.
3. Book: Little Beach Street Bakery
This was such a good book, a perfect read for the summer (well, spring I guess, but it felt summery). As a mom, I often wonder what it would be like to start my life over on my own. Of course, I love my family and my kids, so that’s not going to happen, but it’s fun to think about. Little Beach Street Bakery does just that, following Polly as she digs herself out of a bad breakup and a bad business. Heartwarming but thoughtful, I highly recommend it. Also the sequel, Summer at Little Beach Street Bakery, just came out.
4. Recipe: Chicken with Sweet Potatoes and Feta Salsa Verde
(See trying to eat better, above). I modified this recipe and baked the chicken in the oven, but it was still delicious. My husband hates sweet potatoes, but throw some feta on them, and he was hooked. He actually went back for seconds. My kids still don’t really enjoy sweet potatoes, so they got plain ones with butter and cinnamon sugar.
5. Home: Pioneer Woman Linens
I know Pioneer Woman is everywhere, and I know it’s maybe not so great that her line is sold at Wal-Mart, but I’m hooked. Her linens are high-quality, and her dishtowels ACTUALLY ABSORB WATER, which is something that’s been sorely lacking in my kitchen. We have her napkins, which wash well, her towels, as above, and her oven mitts, which are thick and adorable. I know I’ll be buying more of this charming line—and I just read today there will be new prints for fall as well!
6. Miscellaneous: Grocery store hydrangeas
We have flowers at all our grocery stores, but the expensive grocery store is the only one that sells hydrangeas, and I’ve been making excuses to go there for the past few weeks so I can feed my obsession with them. By using a trick I learned from another blogger—dipping the hydrangea petals in water to give them additional hydration—I can keep these babies looking good for almost two weeks. Worth it, in my opinion, both for the cost and the ridiculous amount of happiness they bring me every time I look at them.
